PolicyTALKS: Betting on Green: Are Cannabis and Gambling Revenue Aligning with Public Goals?
Description
Show me the Money - Cannabis Revenue (9:00 - 10:30AM)
Nearly a decade after Massachusetts voters legalized recreational cannabis use and sales, we explore the state and local revenue and spending from cannabis sales. The panel will discuss where the revenue is coming from, where it's going, and if and how it is promoting equity.
Payouts and Risks in Massachusetts’ Gambling Revenue (11:00AM - 12:30PM)
Massachusetts casinos, the Lottery, and sports betting generate $1.5 billion a year in public revenue. MassBudget Policy Director Phineas Baxandall will present new research looking at how public investment of gambling revenue has evolved over time, who pays these dollars, and how current systems impact disparities of income and race. A panel of experts will then discuss the implications and the path forward.
